Despite the well meant advice from my dearest friends and mentors, I went my way into the open field of studies in Structural Integration (someone once said about me: tell her one thing, and she’s going to do the opposite.. yes, that’s pretty much me) – and as a result with the basis of Hatha Vinyasa, Iyengar, Scaravelli, Kundalini Yoga and Fascial Fitness I developed FASCIA VINYASA YOGA , which now is furthermore influenced by SLINGS training (adding a wellspring of detailed brilliancy of Contemporary Pilates and Anatomy Trains Structural Integration).
I currently spend most of my time with art of motion Academy (here in Oz it’s directed and represented by the divine Muriel Morwitzer ) and Anatomy Trains Australia & NZ / Anatomy Trains who only confirm (my then very lonely) intuitive decision to go off track from the traditional taught yoga.
Ido Portal’s work, Embodiment, Continuum Movement, Natural Movement, Somatics, Yoga, Contemporary Pilates (nope, no 100’s here), Slings Myofascial Training etc. are all currently booming.
And this for a very good reason:
Living in a state of squared – secretly approval seeking, reality escaping tunnel vision, where our ‘tech neck’ postures dominating the daily picture on our streets and cafes (like Marion Mcrae recently described: I looked around me at the train station in Sydney and this image made me feel so sad, and sick to be honest. Everyone was looking into their bloody phones!”
The consequence: Disembodiment and dis-socialisation are unstoppably leading us to an increase in mental illness, unexplained chronic pain, body image related issues, IBS, social anxiety etc.
A decreased and distressed INTEROCEPTION (the ‘HOW do I feel inside right now awareness’) can be linked to conditions ‘such as irritable bowel syndrome, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, alexythymia (emotional blindness), schizophrenic disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and possibly fibromyalgia. It has been proposed that the neural pathways associated with interoception may be considered as a potential correlate for consciousness. (Craig, 2009) Expt: Robert Schleip , Jan 7, 2016
Right then.. so what can we do?
// educate ourselves
// creating, doing, feeling, sending.. and of course making love (yes outrageous I know, that’s the German speaking here)
// regular fascial training (the don’t do always the same training)
// receiving fascial bodywork such as Structural Integration
// mindfulness practices (yes I personally include running, surfing, gardening, writing these practices)
// a balanced connective tissue friendly (alkaline) diet
// a rich social life (Again: Who are the 4 people you spend most time with? And how is your relationship going at the moment? )
// as well as an authentic self expression (yes, we all can learn to become and act the way we are) – will all contribute to a content, peaceful, life embracing you.
‘People may be shaking their heads now, but we are on the forefront of this.’ a colleague at Movement Solutions said to me last night. I cannot agree more.
THANK YOU to all who are continuously inspire and encourage me to understand more of all this, to keep going ahead pushing the message into the world and to share with hands and heart this fantastic realm of human exploration in anatomy, science, movement and manual therapy.. So that we can all be ourselves again.
